HEC Policy on Graduation Requirements

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) mandates that no Pakistani university can award a Bachelor's degree to a student with CGPA below 2.0. This is a national minimum floor — individual universities can be stricter.

What Happens If Your CGPA Falls Below 2.0?

First Semester Below 2.0: Academic Warning issued.
Second Consecutive Semester Below 2.0: Academic Probation.
Third Consecutive Semester Below 2.0: Most universities initiate discontinuation proceedings.

Students on probation are often restricted from: extracurricular activities, society memberships, and (at some universities) internship programs.

How to Recover a Low CGPA

The most effective strategies:

Retake failed or low-grade courses. At most Pakistani universities, repeated courses replace the original grade in the CGPA calculation.
